Animal Sanctuary Appeal
Background:
For over the past 25 years Animal Concern West Cumbria has been caring for, and rehoming dogs from the allotment site at Dunmail Park, WorkingtonThis site is gratefully rented from Workington Town CouncilDuring this time thousands of dogs have been successfully re-homedThe charity relies upon volunteers who, 365 days a year, at least twice a day,
care for, feed and walk dogs through rain, wind, sleet, snow and sunshine
These volunteers, without mains electricity, have to start up the generator at night, wash down kennels even when the outside tap is frozen and work by torchlight to change bedding etcIn 2004 a lady called Mary Irwin from Keswick willed money to be used to create an animal sanctuary for CumbriaAim - to create a sanctuary:
To provide better conditions for the animalsTo put into place more facilities for the volunteersTo have someone living on the siteTo create a dog training, obedience and exercise areaTo provide a charity shop.
The way forward - to purchase a suitable site.
Ideally the site would have:
Possibilities for a dwelling as well as animal housingSufficient area around for animal exerciseTo be sited at least a quarter of a mile away from the nearest residential property. If you would like to donate to the Sanctuary Fund or have a site you think might suit Animal Concern's needs click on
