Cody
Cody is an adorable 4 year old Staffie bitch. At the age of 6 weeks she sustained spinal injuries which caused paralysis for over a month. Brave little Cody then managed to get on her feet again, albeit with a bit of a wobbly gait.
Cody's main problem is that until now her feet have been 'tipped' when walking so that she has effectively been walking on her knuckles, causing pain and bleeding.
When Cody came into Animal Concern she was immediately taken to see a specialist orthopaedic vet who suggested that we try to strengthen her legs by walking her in special boots several times daily starting with short periods and gradually increasing the length of her walks. This seemed to improve Cody's walking a lot but it was sometimes difficult to keep the boots on her.
Eventually, one of our volunteers decided to take her home for some intensive treatment. Cody was taken into a large field with the volunteers own dog and allowed to run on grass for half an hour twice each day.
This was continued for a period of two weeks during which the sessions were increased to 40 minutes each. Cody was taken on some local walks on forest tracks and lakeside paths. During this time Cody was carefully and continually monitored for any damage to her feet.
Cody has made such significant progress with her walking that she is now ready for rehoming. She is a loving and happy little dog. She is excellent with all people, children and other dogs. Cody definitely walks better off the lead and has excellent recall. Ideally she needs a home where she can run free in a large garden and/or driven to places where she can run around. She is not ready for lots of pavement work in town where she needs to be on the lead but rough country tracks are fine. When she came to us Cody could not climb stairs but now she can! She is excellent in the car.
Cody is house trained and vaccinated
Anyone who is willing to offer Cody a home will be rewarded with a loving and loyal companion.
